Ingredients

Apple rings
  • 3 apples Honeycrisp or Fuji; cored and sliced into 1/2-inch rings
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter melted
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1.5 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp nutmeg
  • 0.25 tsp vanilla extract
  • vanilla ice cream for serving
  • caramel sauce for serving

Equipment

  • 1 air fryer

Method

Make the cinnamon butter coating
  1. Whisk melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract until evenly combined and glossy.
  2. Transfer the coating to a shallow bowl so the apple rings can be evenly coated.
Coat and air fry the apple rings
  1. Toss apple rings in the cinnamon butter coating until each ring is well coated.
  2. Preheat the air fryer to 380F.
  3. Arrange coated apple rings in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving space between rings.
  4. Air fry for 10-12 minutes at 380F, flipping halfway, until golden and caramelized at the edges.
  5. Air fry in batches if needed so the rings stay in a single layer and crisp instead of steaming.
Serve
  1. Serve immediately with vanilla ice cream and caramel dipping sauce.

Notes

For the crispiest edges, keep the rings in a single layer and flip halfway through air frying so both sides caramelize. Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 2 days and reheat in the air fryer at 350F for 3-4 minutes; the apples will soften but still taste great. Freezing is not recommended due to texture changes. For a dairy-free option, use plant-based butter and serve with dairy-free vanilla ice cream.
