Ingredients

Fruit platter components
  • 2 cup fresh blueberries For the blueberry canton (star field).
  • 2 lb fresh strawberries Hulled and halved lengthwise to make the red stripes.
  • 3 medium bananas Sliced into rounds for the white stripes.
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice Brush on bananas to prevent browning.

Equipment

  • 1 sheet pan

Method

Arrange the flag base
  1. Choose a large rectangular serving tray or cutting board and set it on a stable surface.
  2. In the upper left corner, arrange a dense rectangle of blueberries to form the canton (star field) so it looks filled and even.
Build the red and white stripes
  1. Starting from the top right and working left from the blueberry section, lay rows of halved strawberries cut-side down to form the red stripes.
  2. Brush the banana slices with lemon juice to prevent browning, then arrange them in rows between the strawberry stripes to create the white stripes.
  3. Continue alternating strawberry and banana rows across the full length of the tray, keeping the rows tight for a clean flag effect.
Chill or serve
  1. Serve immediately, or refrigerate uncovered for up to 1 hour before serving while keeping the fruit rows intact.

Notes

Pro tip: slice bananas right before assembly so the lemon-brushed rounds stay bright and firm. Refrigerate uncovered for up to 1 hour; freezing is not recommended because strawberries and bananas soften after thawing. For a dietary swap, use low-sugar fruit options (like extra strawberries and blueberries) and reduce added sugars elsewhere—this platter itself is already naturally sweet and no additional sugar is needed.
