Underbake the biscuits
- Prepare the Cheddar Bay biscuit mix according to package directions, but bake for 10 minutes less than directed so the pieces are set and not fully golden.
- Let the underbaked biscuits cool briefly, then break them into pieces.
Assemble and bake
- Preheat the oven to 375°F and grease a 9x13 dish.
- Arrange the underbaked biscuit pieces across the bottom of the dish.
- Scatter the sausage crumbles evenly over the biscuit pieces.
- Whisk the eggs, milk, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until smooth.
- Stir in the shredded cheddar, then pour the mixture over the casserole so it settles around the biscuits.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes until the eggs are set and the biscuits are golden.
- Brush the reserved garlic herb butter over the hot casserole immediately, then serve.
Notes
For a cleaner slice, let the casserole rest 10 minutes after baking so the custard firms up. Refrigerate leftovers for up to 3 days; reheat in the oven or microwave until hot. Freezing is not recommended because the biscuit pieces can soften during thawing. For a dairy-light option, use reduced-fat cheddar and reduced-fat milk (texture will be slightly less rich).
